Initially, Tom Fulp raised a fanzine called New Ground, whose purpose was very different from the current Newgrounds. She was a fanzine of Neo Geo (Neo-synonym of New; Geo-synonym of Ground)
When it had access for the creation of a website, Tone it wanted to use the name of his fanzine like name of the power, but with something more to give some "emphasis". Shin New Ground was one of the considerations, but the final choice was New Ground Remix (NGR). In the summer of 1996 the plays Club were created to Seal and Assassin, which finely gave some (litle) prestige to the NGR.
In the University of Drexel, Tone it had not any more access to update the NGR, since the only connection that existed in the bedrooms was an internal net. During the period, he raised Club to Seal II and Assassin II (whose name was altered). The New Ground Atomix (NGA) was raised to shelter these two new plays. Now, there were two "New Ground", each one with his version of " Club to Seal " and " Assassin ". Later, Cat Dynamics and Beep were produced me Jesus, making the NGA "more "important" than his predecessor.
In the spring of 1998 Tone moved for an apartment and decided to join his creations in the only site. In the Autumn of 1998 the program of TV North American Inside Edition demonstrated interest in doing a matter on " Assassin ", which caused Tone to create a definite address for the NGA. The power newground.com was already existing, then newgrounds.com was chosen by it.
Even after the program Inside Edition to have lost the interest in " Assassin ", Tone maintained his project and kept on working in the site, I have to exchange servants because of the high traffic of informations that started to take place. To help to pay the servants' counts, there were produced T-shirts that were put up for sale through the site itself (up to today this activity is maintained, including now the sale of stickers)
In 1999 the address Newgrounds.com was already receiving a considerable attention of magazines and sites, including the Yahoo Internet Life Magazine, Stuff Magazine and wired.com. Legally there were conflicts, specially with the net BBC. The character Pico was raised, up to today " mascot " of the Newgrounds
In 2000 the layout was updated, with the addition of a bar of common navigation to all the parts of the site, making easy the navigation. Also the room was created of chat and the "community" of the NG is growing year after year.
In 2005 it began the search for a place in which the Newgrounds finally had his "thirst", since up to the moment all the work wrapping the updating and monitoramento from the site they were done from the personal computers of Tom and his brother, Wade. The place of the office of where the Newgrounds is administered at present it is in Perkasie, Pennsylvania, in the United States.
